About the PTO

Welcome!  All families of Woodbrook are automatically members of the PTO.

When does the PTO meet?
The PTO meets in the Library, generally on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm, and childcare is typically provided. The first meeting tends to be slightly different in that it occurs after the school’s volunteer orientation and therefore starts later.  There are some meetings that end up being scheduled on the 3rd Tuesday due to school breaks, holidays or snow days.  Agenda items may be submitted to any board member.  All Woodbrook parents and staff are welcome and encouraged to attend!

How do I become a PTO member?
Every parent/guardian of a Woodbrook student and every employee of the school are PTO members.  The PTO charges no dues, yet does ask families to contribute voluntarily either by supporting annual fundraisers or by making direct donations to the PTO (the Woodbrook PTO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and therefore direct donations are tax deductible.) We particularly appreciate your volunteer time!

How does the PTO raise money?
This year will have several major fundraisers, as well as other smaller events as well. Our first major fundraiser is the attractions book sales. Students will bring home in the bags books and order forms.  We will also be trying a direct donation campaign this fall that will replace past catalog sales. There is a Book Fair and Election Day bake sale in the Fall and our annual Fun Fair is in the Spring.  The PTO also benefits when families participate in various retail programs, such as Box Tops for Education and purchases made with registered grocery cards at Kroger and Harris Teeter.  Look for more details on how to link your store loyalty cards to Woodbrook in the weeks ahead. If you shop at Amazon.com, try smile.amazon.com and link your account to Woodbrook Elementary PTO which enables Amazon to donate a portion of some sales to us.  Thank you in advance for your support!

What does the PTO do for students, teachers and other staff members?
The PTO seeks to bring together the broader Woodbrook Community to support and celebrate students, teachers and staff at the school.  We do this in a variety of ways.  For example, we have sponsored several assemblies/cultural events, sent students to Leadership Camp and trainings and helped defray the cost of fields trips for all students. The PTO has also  hosted Family Dinner nights, Movie Nights, Bingo Nights, Game Nights,  Sweetheart Dances, and Talent Shows.  In addition, we often assist with school-wide events such as Family Maker Night, the Multicultural Festival and Field Day.  In past years, thanks to your support of PTO fundraisers, we have able to support new teachers,  purchase PE equipment, art supplies, and many other items for our school. We also coordinate several staff luncheons and organize activities for Staff Appreciation Week.  All that said, we are always on the look out for new ideas and ways to hold up and advance Woodbrook Elementary School’s caring and enriching climate.

The PTO supports Woodbrook Elementary students, staff and parents by hosting fun events for the Woodbrook Elementary community, by raising funds for equipment and activities not covered in the school budget, and by providing ongoing support and appreciation to Woodbrook’s staff.

Last year, thanks to your generous support of PTO fundraisers and events, the PTO raised approx. $18,000 which was used to:

  • offset the cost of field trips for all students,
  • send 4/5thgrade students to Leadership Camp and in-house trainings,
  • fund Team Building w/ Triple C for the entire 5thgrade,
  • purchase PE equipment, art supplies, and replace musical instruments
  • pay for teacher luncheons and other staff appreciation activities
  • host free events like Family Dinner Nights, the Ice Cream Social and assist with Field Day costs
