Responsive Classroom Resources

Woodbrook Elementary School follows a responsive classroom model which focuses on the strong link between academic success and social-emotional learning.  It is a way of teaching that emphasizes social, emotional, and academic growth.  The skills that are directly and explicitly taught include cooperation, assertion, respect/responsibility, empathy, and self-control (CARES).  The CARES traits are taught directly and indirectly through morning meetings as well as other times during the day.  One way the school teachers these traits is through the word of the week.  In the school news’ postings, the PTO shares what the word of the week is.  At times, there are additional resources parents might want to consult related to these words.  That is what this section of the website is for.
