The May PTO meeting includes elections for the PTO Board for the next school year. All positions are open, as they are one-year positions with the option to be reelected in subsequent years. All positions except Member-at-Large may be shared by 2 people.
The PTO Board consists of:
President: presides at all meetings, coordinates the work of the officers and committees, and shall act, in conjunction with the principal, as an advocate for the school. Time commitment: varies; typically 2 hours per week
Vice-President – Ways & Means (1st VP): Is in charge of fundraising and of establishing committees for events. The first vice-president also steps in for the president if they are absent. Time commitment: varies depending on the number of events and fundraisers
Vice-President – Communications (2nd VP): Oversees communications, such as the newsletter and community relations. Time commitment: approx. 1-2 hours per week
Secretary: Takes notes at PTO meetings and submits those notes the following month for review and approval; schedules childcare for PTO meetings (usually from AHS Key Club). Time commitment – approx. 2-3 hours per month
Treasurer: The treasurer keeps an accurate record of receipts and expenditures; deposits all funds received; and pays out funds in accordance with decisions made by the PTO. Time commitment: approx. 1 hour per week
Member-at-Large (2 positions): Provides input on Board decisions and votes as a member of the PTO Board for any decision not made during a regular PTO meeting. Time commitment: approx. 1-2 hours per month, mostly meetings and email
