December 13, 2016

Communications Report
Jen working on electronic newsletter format. Check spam filter / junk mail if you didn’t receive most recent notification from Woodbrook PTO. Updates will be sent weekly unless there weren’t any recent web updates.

Parent Council
Opportunity for someone to be on Parent Council next year. Chance to tour area schools, learn from guest speakers, share Woodbrook news. November council meeting minutes to be shared soon.  More details on participation to be shared in early 2017.

Treasurer Report
Feed the Bear has $835.42 currently.  Suggestion to create a funny/creative post to promote the campaign on social media. Student video would be fun; illustrate how donations will be used.

If Feed the Bear continues, will require a logistical lead next year.  Suggested February end date (Sweetheart Dance), to avoid campaign fatigue.  Kerri to work on communications for January.

New 4th Grade Teacher —  Supplies are needed; Motion approved to give $200 for books and supplies.

Thank You Notes
Amy to write the first eight notes with her kids on the holiday break.  Will include book fair receipts for tax purposes.

Movie Night
Well attended and made $158.  Newer movies are the draw.  Tarzan movie suggested for next event. Lisa to learn if streaming is possible and research licensing needs.

Upcoming Events
Teacher Giving Tree –Tags/requests still on the tree. Presents will be distributed Friday, December 16 at 10am.
Game Night – January 13 – Bingo room, board games, card game. Not intended as a fundraiser but rather a community event. Ellen to reserve, cafeteria, art room and maker room.  Sign up Genius to come.
Fabios Pizza would like to partner on supplying pizza.
Future Restaurant Fundraisers – Hollymead Sweetfrogs ice cream social in spring. Which Which could do a dinner fundraiser on the same day. Contributors recognized in the Yearbook.
Sweetheart Dance –  After Christmas sales for lights/snacks for the dance. Jen has red heart lights. Justin has a friend that is DJ for YMCA. Will check on cost/availability. Looking for volunteer photographer. Amy to check on friend going to art school. Lisa said that staff could show support by supplying cookies, etc.
Spirit Wear – Lisa’s husband will create a graphic that we’ll review at January meeting.

Principal’s Report

Welcome Meg Holub – New parent and PTO member.

Board has approved everything – Bids will be in on March 1.  Parents asking what to expect this school year.  Very little impact on school environment. A team of Woodbrook faculty going to San Diego to visit multi-age schools. Faculty excited to get started and some multi-age classes will start next year. Will need a few parents on the committee for the transition.

New 4th grade teacher

271 students have had opportunity to learn to code.

In need of a chess coach

Two new clubs in January – knitting/crochet;  yearbook club just started. Tutoring starts in January.
