Children’s Challenging Behaviors was created to educate and support families who have a child
diagnosed with a mental illness and/or who has challenging behaviors. This comprehensive training
focuses on developing skills to manage challenging behavior, and learning information and skills to
advocate for a child in the educational, medical, social service, and insurance settings. A plan of
action that includes partnerships between home, school and community will also be developed in
this workshop. Developed by NAMI Virginia as part of the Virginia Family Network.

Social Explorers – FREE PREP Parent Resource Center Workshop Series for students ages 5-7
April 16, 23, 30 and May 7 (Classes meet once each week)
(Mondays – 5:30pm-7:00pm) — Space is limited.. Sign up now!
Classes will be held at Ivy Creek School, 227 Lambs Lane, Charlottesville
This group is designed to help young learners (ages 5-7) with average to above average language
and learning abilities develop the skills they need to be flexible social thinkers and social
problem solvers. Students will learn about the social mind, social expectations, as well as their
own thinking and that of others. These lessons will help them begin to make better decisions
when in the midst of social play and interaction. Social learning takes time and this group will
help students and their caregivers begin to talk about social concepts so that their
understanding of the social world can evolve over time. Social thinking means ME + YOU= US, so
come join US for this social exploration!
